Postpartum Doula Training and Mentorship Program

Postpartum Doula Training and Mentorship Program

Birth Doula Training and Mentorship Program

Are you ready to start your journey to being a birth professional? Are you desiring a path as a Birth Doula or a Postpartum Doula? Are you ready to be a supporting role for the profound parenting transition for new and growing families?

Most trainings offer a weekend crash course and you as the new Doula are expected to know how to support families, launch your new business, and feel confident in your skills. This training is unique as it includes a six month mentorship after your weekend training is complete. We feel that this is an important part of providing each new Doula with the confidence and the skills necessary to not only support laboring and postpartum families, but also in order to succeed with their new business venture.

This training is taught in two parts, Birth and Postpartum. Both parts are recommended (although not required). We feel that this along with a six month mentorship as you begin your new path, you will gain knowledge and confidence that you need in order to offer complete care of and support new and growing families from pregnancy through the postpartum period.

Taught by Midwife Heather Schwarz, who started her birth profession journey as a Birth and Postpartum Doula as well as a Childbirth Educator. She has years of experience training and mentoring new doulas on their journeys into supporting new families.

June 21st to June 23rd - Part One - Birth Doula Training $300

July 19th - 21st - Part Two - Postpartum Doula Training $300

For the Complete Birth Professional Training - $525

Mentorship included with each individual part or the complete training.

Space is limited. In order to hold your space, RSVP for one or both parts of the training by emailing heather@montereybirthcenter.com. 50% deposit due with RSVP. Schedule and complete instructions will be sent privately prior to training.  Scholarship space available for future birth professionals of color. Please inquire.

Meet Dr. Jessica Goldstein (Jessi)
Jul

5:30 PM17:30

Meet Dr. Jessica Goldstein (Jessi)

Dr. Jessi hopes to make this an informal interaction to help you get to know her philosophy and approach to care. This will be an interactive discussion about bodily autonomy in reproduction, childbirth and beyond.

She will also discuss how when people go to the doctor, it’s all advice and recommendations and that YOU are ultimately the decision maker.

Dr. Goldstein caught the birth bug at age 13 while timing contractions for her sister’s birth. She received her doctorate in Medicine from Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, IL in 2001. Dr. Goldstein served in the U.S. Navy for 10 years including two tours as a flight surgeon serving military pilots and families in California, Florida, Asia and the Middle East. Dr. Goldstein is Board-Certified in Family Medicine. She completed a Fellowship and received a certificate in public health in 2012 at the University of New Mexico and specializes in Maternal, Child and Reproductive Health. Dr. Goldstein has surgical privileges including cesarean section privileges at Natividad Medical Center in Salinas, CA. She is happily married and has three, school age, daughters. Her youngest daughter was born at home in 2014 and that had a large impact on her views on the importance of empowerment in birth. After moving to the Monterey Peninsula in 2015, she has been an advocate both locally and nationally about the need for collaboration between physicians and midwives for safe birthing and healthy families, and is very excited to join this team of wonderfully talented women with the mutual goal of keeping families well.

Her services include but are not limited to:

  • High risk obstetric and trial of labor consultation

  • Newborn and Peds well/sick visits

  • Reproductive health needs

  • Contraceptive counseling/management (IUDs, Implants, Depo-Provera injection)

Primrose and Lace

Primrose & Lace is a mobile service, offering nursing bra fittings in the comfort of your own home, at no charge. As well, we are featured at select pop-up events, bringing our elegant, yet practical, nursing bra collection directly to you. Primrose & Lace is owned by Vanessa Wennstrom, a local doula, lactation counselor, CLC, and mother of three. Not too long ago, she remembers clearly the frustration of locating a quality nursing bra she could depend on and also enjoy wearing as something beautiful amongst all the immediate postpartum demands her body and lifestyle required. She carries select nursing bra designers who maintain integrity in their lines, honoring the functionality, accessibility and femininity of a quality bra that states clearly, " I am a beautiful mother who has chosen to nurse my little one." As a mobile service, she sincerely enjoys the flexibility she has to travel anywhere from Carmel Valley to Davenport over to Menlo Park, Morgan Hill and everywhere inbetween. As a doula and mother, she knows the importance of bringing the collection directly to you, so that you have one less thing to do after giving birth.

This class is right for you if:
-You are curious about this amazing process unfolding in your body and would like to know what to expect as your baby prepares for their journey earth side.
-You want a positive birthing experience, and recognize that this takes some preparation! It is my job to help you have an amazing birth no matter what it looks like. This is a non-judgmental space for you to explore your options.
-You know there is no one right way to birth! You desire a variety of comfort measures like position changes, breathing techniques, and massage, and tools like tens units, balls, and laboring scarves to choose from.
-You are open to interventions and medications if they become necessary, but would like to have the appropriate information so you can make informed decisions about your care. This is best done in advance and not when your are working hard to birth your baby.

Birth Doula Training and Mentorship Program

Please RSVP or ask questions by contacting Heather@montereybirthcenter.com

MBWC’s Community Speaking Series Featuring: Cori Gentry

Top 5 Tips for a Birth That Doesn’t Suck

What comes to mind when you think about childbirth? Screaming? Hand breaking? Blood everywhere? Maybe you’ve seen some births on social media that looked gentle, empowering, even joyous. You’ll remember the day your child is born for the rest of your life, in this talk we will discuss how to make it a good memory. This talk is appropriate for folks giving birth in a hospital, birth center, or at home; with all the drugs or none at all, with OBs, midwives, or unassisted.

Cori is a certified childbirth educator, Evidence Based Birth® Instructor, and toLabor trained birth doula and activist. I created Birth Chemistry childbirth curriculum and have had the pleasure of training other instructors across the country.  Through the birth stories of family members I grew up believing that birth was hard, but rewarding. After studying Early Childhood Education at California State Monterey Bay, I became a childcare provider in 2005 and was surprised by how negatively my clients viewed their births. No one seemed to believe a positive birth experience was achievable, and my hopes for a physiologic birth were often met with "You'll be begging for drugs!"  Since 2012 I have watched my clients replace fear and uncertainty with excitement and confidence as their birthing day approaches. My births have taught me that the decisions one makes in childbirth are personal and unique to them. I believe parents deserve to learn their options from an objective resource, and receive compassionate support throughout that process. Advocating for options and safety in childbirth is something I live daily. I am a toLabor trained birth doula and birth activist, and as an Evidence Based Birth® Instructor I am able to offer trainings to obstetricians, midwives, nurses, and other doulas in the community in addition to working with expecting families. I have served as the President of the Birth Network of Monterey County, Co-Coordinator for ImprovingBirth Monterey County, the ImprovingBirthBoard of Directors, and  as Co-Leader of the International Cesarean Awareness Networks (ICAN) of Monterey County. I love sharing may passion and knowledge with parents who desire a positive birthing experience.
