Primrose & Lace is a mobile service, offering nursing bra fittings in the comfort of your own home, at no charge. As well, we are featured at select pop-up events, bringing our elegant, yet practical, nursing bra collection directly to you. Primrose & Lace is owned by Vanessa Wennstrom, a local doula, lactation counselor, CLC, and mother of three. Not too long ago, she remembers clearly the frustration of locating a quality nursing bra she could depend on and also enjoy wearing as something beautiful amongst all the immediate postpartum demands her body and lifestyle required. She carries select nursing bra designers who maintain integrity in their lines, honoring the functionality, accessibility and femininity of a quality bra that states clearly, " I am a beautiful mother who has chosen to nurse my little one." As a mobile service, she sincerely enjoys the flexibility she has to travel anywhere from Carmel Valley to Davenport over to Menlo Park, Morgan Hill and everywhere inbetween. As a doula and mother, she knows the importance of bringing the collection directly to you, so that you have one less thing to do after giving birth.

Evidence Based Birth Childbirth Class

Evidence Based Birth Childbirth Class

I grew up believing birth was a normal life process. My husband and I still prepared for the birth of our first child with a 12 week childbirth series... we did our homework, asked questions, we were set!

Well... turns out there is A LOT that conventional childbirth classes leave out. You may learn that you have options, but American birth has become streamline and routine. I quickly learned that choice was an illusion, no one wanted to see my birth plan, and the doctors and nurses expected me to simply do as I was told. I needed help communicating with my team in an effective and positive way!

Busy? Evidence Based Birth® Childbirth Class Takes Place In-Person AND Online!

Class Tuition is $300 and Includes:

  • Mentorship from Cori Gentry, experienced EBB Instructor and lifelong Monterey area resident. Learn to navigate the maternity care system with a professional who knows your local options.

  • Two in-person classes to practice your labor skills

  • Five weeks of online videos for you and your partner to watch together

  • Four weekly Zoom discussions with your EBB Instructor and classmates

  • Breastfeeding and newborn care videos

  • Earn points throughout the class to redeem for prizes at the end!

  • Private consulting sessions should an induction, transfer of care, or cesarean birth become necessary

  • Professionally printed Evidencee Based Birth® Student Manual

  • Weekly birth videos and games that will not make you roll your eyes

  • Access to your instructor's birth & parenting lending library

  • Your instructor's availability for advice and support at any time before, during, or after the birth

  • Community with other expecting parents

  • A class reunion after all the babies arrive!

MBWC’s Community Speaking Series Featuring: Angie Sonrode

The Monterey Birth & Wellness Center believes that all birthing families need community and a place to learn, grow and connect. As such, we have put together a monthly Community Speaking Series to showcase different members of our community that have something to offer for pregnancy, birth, postpartum and well person/well families.

October’s MBWC Community Speaker Series Presents:

Angie Sonode

Mid Drift Movement is a nonprofit organization using film, social media, art, and community outreach to change the conversation surrounding postpartum body image.

Angie Sonrode has been a birth worker and parent educator for well over a decade, and her husband Mike is a high school English teacher, as well as the "film crew" for their Mid Drift docu-series. Together, the Sonrodes have traveled extensively with their four children, conducting workshops and filming as they seek perspectives on postpartum across cultures, hoping to educate larger audiences about health care systems, media influence, partner perspectives, self care, and more. Mid Drift

Episode 1 introduces their work and background, along with the complexities, challenges, and successes of several body positive allies.

La Leche League

Please join us at our monthly La Leche League meeting, a peer-to-peer support group. Families of nursing babies and children are welcome to come and connect with others as we learn from each other's experiences. Many families find that new questions arise through the stages of their child's development. We always allow time to address these questions first. Accredited La Leche League Leaders will present monthly topics such as: benefits of breastfeeding, bringing home baby, avoiding difficulties, and nutrition and weaning. Other resources include a lending library, email, phone, and online support.

ALL MEETINGS ARE FREE! Yearly memberships are optional and cost $20. Donations appreciated. Parking is available on site, location is wheelchair/stroller friendly. You can enter through the main entrance or go around to the back of the building to enter directly into the meeting room.

Primrose and Lace

Comfort Measures for L&D Nurses

Are you an L&D nurse who wishes you had more tools in your toolbox to help keep patients comfortable during labor?

By attending Comfort Measures for Labor and Delivery Nurses, you will not only get hands-on practice with comfort measures skills, but you'll also learn how you can overcome barriers to providing comfort measures on your unit!

All nurses who register at the Professional level or higher will earn 3 nursing contact hours, and those who register at the Super Ticket level will receive a Comfort Measures Toolkit to take back to your unit and teach to your peers. Come enjoy an afternoon of demonstrations, discussion, and networking with L&D nurses from all over Monterey & Santa Cruz County.

This Comfort Measures Workshop is taught by Cori Gentry, Evidence Based Birth® Instructor. We designed this workshop specifically for Labor and Delivery nurses who are looking to add to their labor support knowledge and skills. However, local doulas, midwives, and childbirth educators are also encouraged to register!

Savvy Birth Pro + Birth Room Advocacy

Are you passionate about evidence based care, but regularly witness hospital policies taking precedence over your client's choice? It can be frustrating to watch clients receive care that isn’t based on research and not quite knowing how to help.

On Saturday, March 7th from 1PM - 5PM at Monterey Birth & Wellness Center we will be offering a two part workshop: Evidence Based Birth®'s Savvy Birth Pro followed by Birth Room Advocacy, a discussion led by Evidence Based Birth Instructor®, Advocate Doula, and author of Birth Chemistry® curriculum: Cori Gentry, BCI.

The Savvy Birth Pro Workshop (3 contact hours) was developed by Evidence Based Birth® to give professionals the skills you need to make a genuine difference and help your clients attain the best possible chance at evidence based care during pregnancy and labor.

The Savvy Birth Pro Workshop will succeed in preparing you to help your clients assert their right to evidence based care in a respectful way that builds bridges, not walls. We believe the inspirational knowledge you will gain from the Savvy Birth Pro Workshop will have a positive ripple effect that extends to your clients, the professionals you work with and your community!

You’re no longer alone in the quest to help more families receive respectful, high quality maternity care! The Savvy Birth Pro Workshop does more than provide great skills; it creates a strong community of connected professionals who together share this important mission.

MBWC’s Community Speaking Series Featuring: Kaleena Hurlburt

The Monterey Birth & Wellness Center believes that all birthing families need community and a place to learn, grow and connect. As such, we have put together a monthly Community Speaking Series to showcase different members of our community that have something to offer for pregnancy, birth, postpartum and well person/well families.

October’s MBWC Community Speaker Series Presents:

Kaleena Hurlburt

Kaleena will share the philosophy of the GYROKINESIS® Method with regards to Pre and Post Natal fitness and further discuss what it means to “tone the pelvic floor”.  Following, participants will have the opportunity to participate in a 45 minute demonstration to move their bodies and experience what it’s like to create vitality and suppleness within.

A  native of Seaside, Kaleena returns home to the Peninsula after a long and prestigious career of professional dance in the Bay Area. Upon retiring her pointe shoes, Kaleena was invited to join the esteemed San Francisco GYROTONIC® studio where she studied under some of the world's foremost teachers and shared that knowledge with clients of all ages and physical capabilities.

It was after the ecstatic home births of both of her children that Kaleena furthered her curiosity into the depths of Pre and Post Natal studies. As a newly Certified Birth and Postpartum Doula, she is eager to share the GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® Methodologies for all its strengthening and healing properties.

Kaleena welcomes the birthing community to experience this incredible modality!!

Guest Speaker - Dr. Michael Klein Author of Dissident Doctor

Guest Speaker - Dr. Michael Klein Author of Dissident Doctor

Refusing to serve as a doctor in the American military during the Vietnam War, Michael C. Klein came to Canada in 1967. He began his life as a dissident doctor in Montreal where he established a family practice and became a professor and researcher at McGill University. Dr. Klein led a landmark study which demonstrated that episiotomies, routinely performed in hospitals during delivery of babies, caused the very problems it was supposed to prevent. With a person-centered focus in his practice, Dr. Klein has been a critic of the health sector, questioning the value of standard medical procedures, and becoming a champion of midwifery before it was approved in Canada. In his first book, Dissident Doctor: Catching Babies and Challenging the Medical Status Quo, Dr. Klein describes his push for change, intermingling personal stories with professional ones, with insight and humor.

Copies of the book will be offered for sale - $5.00 donation requested and if you choose to buy a book, the donation will be credited towards the purchase of the book - refreshments provided!

Primrose and Lace

Primrose and Lace
