Primrose and Lace

Primrose & Lace is a mobile service, offering nursing bra fittings in the comfort of your own home, at no charge. As well, we are featured at select pop-up events, bringing our elegant, yet practical, nursing bra collection directly to you. Primrose & Lace is owned by Vanessa Wennstrom, a local doula, lactation counselor, CLC, and mother of three. Not too long ago, she remembers clearly the frustration of locating a quality nursing bra she could depend on and also enjoy wearing as something beautiful amongst all the immediate postpartum demands her body and lifestyle required. She carries select nursing bra designers who maintain integrity in their lines, honoring the functionality, accessibility and femininity of a quality bra that states clearly, " I am a beautiful mother who has chosen to nurse my little one." As a mobile service, she sincerely enjoys the flexibility she has to travel anywhere from Carmel Valley to Davenport over to Menlo Park, Morgan Hill and everywhere inbetween. As a doula and mother, she knows the importance of bringing the collection directly to you, so that you have one less thing to do after giving birth.

Local parents who are experiencing postpartum distress should know that they are not alone.

This is a Free Event - RSVP required as seating is very limited. Please reserve your seat  https://form.jotform.com/90946988103165

Having a baby is supposed to be the happiest time of your life. But what if it’s not?

Each year, 1.3 million women in the U. S. struggle to find support and treatment for postpartum depression, anxiety, and other perinatal mood disorders. Two women, Jennifer Silliman and Maureen Fura, both with first hand knowledge of this challenge, came together to give a face and a voice to the countless women who suffer in silence. With the help of Dr. Shoshana Bennett, Executive Producer, they produced a documentary film, uncovering disconnects within the medical community to effectively screen, refer, and treat these women.

One in seven women will experience a pregnancy and postpartum mood and anxiety disorder (PMAD), and one in one thousand will suffer from postpartum psychosis. PMAD is more common than gestational diabetes or hypertension, making it the #1 medical complication related to childbearing, however, it is the one condition during pregnancy and postpartum that is most often under diagnosed by care providers.

“Nobody is asking any questions. Women are dying! Families are suffering! And there still isn’t a comprehensive policy to protect mothers,” says Fura, the film’s writer and director.

Therapists will be available during and after the film to provide support.

A panel discussion will be held following the film with opportunities for discussion with local therapists and parents who are recovering from PMAD.

Jennifer Golden, Licensed Clinical Social Psychotherapist
Gail Root, M.A., Pre & Perinatal Psychology & Health
Wendy Root Askew, Board of Supervisors Legislative Analyst and Infertility and Perinatal Anxiety Warrior
Chuck Barrett, Social Worker and Paternal Postpartum Anxiety Survivor
Alexa Snow, Birth Doula and Postpartum OCD and Depression Survivor

Fall Natural Birth Series

This 8 week series is designed for hospital, birth center, and home birth families This class includes Birth Chemistry and Evidence Based Birth curriculum.

This class is right for you if:
-You are curious about this amazing process unfolding in your body and would like to know what to expect as your baby prepares for their journey earth side.
-You want a positive birthing experience, and recognize that this takes some preparation! It is my job to help you have an amazing birth no matter what it looks like. This is a non-judgmental space for you to explore your options.
-You know there is no one right way to birth! You desire a variety of comfort measures like position changes, breathing techniques, and massage, and tools like tens units, balls, and laboring scarves to choose from.
-You are open to interventions and medications if they become necessary, but would like to have the appropriate information so you can make informed decisions about your care. This is best done in advance and not when your are working hard to birth your baby.

Birth Chemistry specializes in helping parents achieve a natural birth, with about 70% of Birth Chemistry students birthing without pain medication, but every parent's wants and needs are unique to them, and every desire and need is respected!

Infant and child sleep consulting is taught by Michael Holden Klingler, a Certified Infant & Child Sleep Consultant. He is trained in a variety of sleep coaching methods to help children get the sleep they need. Potty Learning

Please RSVP by April 5th to rootsandwingsparentcoaching.com

Babies in arms are welcome.

Potty learning is one of those parenting topics that everyone seems to have an opinion on!  We  may have friends whose child learned to use the potty at an early age, and you wonder why your child is not interested.  What are the signs your child is ready?  Are girls easier to "train" than boys?  Whose responsibility is it anyway?  If you are wanting your child to attend a preschool that requires them to be potty trained, what can you do? Let's explore this topic in a way that respects the needs of parents and children.

Prenatal Yoga Workshop with Jill Willett

The Monterey Birth and Wellness center is co-sponsoring this event. It is open to pregnant clients, yoga teachers and student yoga teachers.

This workshop will demystify prenatal yoga by exploring safe practices for students and practitioners. It is meant to educate non-prenatal teachers to feel competent to address the needs of prenatal students. It is also meant to prepare prenatal students to feel confident to walk into any yoga class and modify for themselves and feel that they are keeping themselves and their babies safe.

Modifications will be demonstrated and discussed for pranayam, asanas, and props.

Issues discussed:
Low back pain
Hyper mobility
Hyper tonicity
Diastasis Recti
Anxiety
"Listening to your body": Physical discomfort during and after practice
Nothing applies to every body the same way.

A practice class will be offered with sequencing ideas for all 3 trimesters.

Event will be located at Union Yoga in downtown Monterey
